Hundreds of acres of data centers planned near Dallas

A Colorado-based company has acquired a large tract of land in Kaufman County, just east of Dallas, with plans to build a sprawling data center campus. Flexential, a provider of data center services, purchased 110 acres for the project. The site is expected to host multiple buildings designed to handle cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and other high-capacity digital infrastructure.

The move comes as demand for data storage and processing power continues to surge across North Texas. The region has become a hot spot for tech investment due to its reliable power grid, business-friendly tax environment, and central location. Kaufman County, in particular, has attracted several large-scale developments in recent years as available land near downtown Dallas becomes scarcer.

Flexential has not released a specific timeline for construction or the total investment amount, but the campus is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and dozens of permanent technical positions once operational. Local officials have expressed support for the project, citing its potential to boost the tax base and bring high-paying jobs to the area. However, some residents have raised concerns about water usage and the strain on local power supplies, issues that have followed similar developments across the state. The company has stated it will work with utility providers to ensure sustainable operations.
