The Town of Shrewsbury has started a major effort to update its Comprehensive Master Plan, a document that will guide local decisions for the next 20 years. Officials say the process will be community driven and will touch on some of the most pressing issues facing the town, including housing, development, transportation, open space and sustainability.
To lead the work, Shrewsbury has partnered with the Barrett Planning Group. The firm will help gather public input, review existing conditions and draft a plan that reflects the values and priorities of residents. Town leaders describe the update as a chance to set a clear direction for growth while protecting the character of local neighborhoods.
The plan is expected to address how and where new housing should be built, how commercial and residential development should be balanced, and how the town can improve roads, sidewalks and public transit options. Open space preservation and environmental resilience are also central themes, as the community looks for ways to prepare for climate related challenges and protect natural resources.
Residents will have several opportunities to take part in the process. Officials say public meetings, surveys and other outreach efforts will be announced as the project moves forward. The goal is to create a shared vision that reflects the needs of a changing population while keeping Shrewsbury a desirable place to live, work and raise a family.
