A bipartisan coalition of state lawmakers has voiced their concerns regarding the impending sale of land associated with the closures of SCI Rockview and Quehanna Boot Camp. Despite their efforts to halt the closures, which have raised significant worries among local residents, the legislators are now focusing on ensuring that any subsequent land transactions are conducted with full transparency.
One of the lawmakers, Conklin, emphasized the importance of fairness in the sale process, stating, “Despite our every effort, we were not able to stop the closure of SCI Rockview and Quehanna Boot Camp. But we can work to make sure that any sale of the underlying land happens in the fairest, most transparent way possible to prevent additional adverse impacts on residents.”
The call for transparency comes amid fears that the land’s sale could lead to negative consequences for the surrounding community. Lawmakers are advocating for measures that would allow for public input and oversight during the sale process, aiming to protect the interests of local residents and ensure that their voices are heard.
