VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The iconic Cavalier Resort at the Oceanfront has officially changed hands. The collection of three hotels that make up the historic property has been sold to a real estate firm based in Connecticut, according to an announcement made Tuesday.
The deal includes the landmark Cavalier Hotel, along with its sister properties that form the broader resort complex. The new owners are expected to take over management immediately, though specific terms of the sale were not disclosed.
The Cavalier has long been a symbol of Virginia Beach's coastal hospitality, dating back to its original opening in 1927. Over the decades, it has hosted presidents, celebrities, and countless vacationers. The property underwent a major renovation in recent years, restoring much of its original grandeur while adding modern amenities.
Local officials expressed cautious optimism about the change in ownership, hoping the new firm will continue to invest in the property and maintain its status as a premier destination. The resort employs hundreds of local workers and remains a key driver of tourism in the area.
The Connecticut-based firm has not yet outlined specific plans for the resort, but industry observers expect a focus on preserving its historic character while potentially expanding its event and conference offerings.
